We focus on building a supportive environment for kids to explore the creative process beyond traditional methods. Emphasis will be placed on process above results, as we practice curiosity and build confidence.

  • watercolor painting

  • observational drawing

  • ink making

  • nature journaling/ field notes, including simple bookbinding

  • cyanotype fabrics & basic sewing projects

    ink making

We’ll explore various places around West Marin each day of camp

The goal of this camp is to encourage kids to

slow down and find ways to enjoy simple

elements from our local environment.

We will discuss art techniques, but will focus more on encouraging empathetic and curious ways of looking at the world in order to spark inspiration and creativity.

This class will be taught by Tess Rubinstein and Erin Barker ~

Tess Rubinstein is an artist based in West Marin. She uses painting, printmaking, and textiles to explore the process of cultivating attention in everyday life. She received a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2017, and has since worked as an illustrator, educator, and muralist.  Tess is a certified California naturalist and volunteer educator at the Duxbury Reef in Bolinas.

Both Erin and Tess have several years of experience working with kids and teaching in the outdoors.

We both believe strongly in a process driven approach and hope to cultivate a kind and creative space for your kids to enjoy.
